Buying Scam?

Have two stornello 125’s for sale and have had a couple of emails from Ali Sherif - Ali Sherif allisherif08@gmail.com, the way the email is written doesn’t sound right, doesn’t want to view the bikes but to send the money via bank transfer, says he is away on a business trip but resides in Manchester and will send agent to pick up. Anyone else been contacted by this person?

Search forum :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: for “allisherif08”

Hi from a fellow Stornello owner. 100% it’s a scam.
I assume as 71 and 73 reg that these are both the later 5 speed bikes.
Do you have any engine spares? There is a guy on the forum that is in need of a crank for a 5 speed engine.

I also know a guy that is after a headlight for a 5 speed if you have one. I’m trying to think if I’m after anything myself as I have a 4 speed Turismo and a 5 speed scrambler.

Thanks Don, Yes I would be interested in a crank for 5 speed .

Scam. See this thread: Buyers scam or not?

Definitely a scam i had someone oddly with the same email contact me on marketplace about something i was selling on marketplace ,and he too said didn’t want to see item and he will send an agent to pick up .Also his English struck me as not correct English ?Reported and blocked after i told him to go away .Politely of course .lol.

Absolutely a scam. Seen the same modus operandi but a different name. Don’t waste your time. If guy is really serious he’d make proper arrangements.

Yes, I advertised my V11 SCURA recently and was contacted by Ali.

I replied saying I wanted an electronic transfer of funds (no cheques) and not heard from him.

Makes you wonder if someone should invite Mr Ali’s ‘agent’ to turn up and be met by the Plod?

Yes, I quite agree :+1:

Baiting scammers for sport can be very entertaining, I’ve had hours of fun over the years. They really dont like having their time wasted - but too time consuming to to take up as a proper hobby.

Unless you can make it pay!

Kitboga on YouTube (and there are others) have essentially made a career out of wasting scammers time. Hopefully they take a wage but any other money seems to be ploughed in to getting better systems in place. He has even developed AI bots that call the scam call centres and waste hours.

Watching a few of these videos is sort of instructional in what the scammers latest scripts or methods are so it’s worth dipping in every now and then.

I too have been contacted by “Ali”, obviously a scam.

Can anyone explain how the scam works? All well and good telling “him” where to go but what would happen if you replied saying yes please? Surely no one would part with a bike without funds cleared in the bank! Or would they??

Vaguely intrigued…

I had one of these over 20 years ago. Even couriered a cheque to me. I paid the cheque into my bank and the money was credited to my account for a few days. Then l was informed that it was a stolen cheque. I informed police as he was due to have the bike collected but they weren’t interested. Fortunately l didn’t lose anything.

Its a scam…had several mails like this for the boat I am selling, sent them to a friend of mine who runs a business protecting people from scams and he pointed out all the red flags, ignore the emails and they will move on regards
