This has been a headache and it came FROM AN IDENTICAL BIKE. Ive done lots now, every one a different headache.
headaches do go away and you end up with a first class bike and sidecar

The rear mounting points, did you use clamps, or weld an eye bolt to the frame ?
THAT is one hell of an advert for HAGONS I got them for my V1000 and in my opinion far and away better than the Koni dial a rides . Mate that is one nice machine very very nice indeed.

Indeed, invaluable items.The rear mounts are easy, there is a lug on the frame where the rear footrest plate all mounts on, there is also a hole through the frame web just in front of the top shock mount, this has a tube welded in between the inner and outer web but that has a 10mm inner diameter, I removed this tub and drilled it out placing a larger diameter tube in its place, tightening the rear top mount as tight as poss keeps it all very rigid.
Right, ISSUE with starter. Hit the button, let go early ans she didnt fire, hit button again in a nanosecond, the starter now just clicks??? One of the wires, looks like an earth wire BACK to the switchgear? Is getting quite hot? I have not had time to remove starter yet, but, any ideas as to what the issue may be?
Most often click no start is the start relay
Run some temporary 2.5mm wires from the relay to the starter motor solenoid.
If she fires, then you have voltage drop due to cheap thin guzzi wire.
If no firing, run the 2.5mm wire directly from the battery live to the starter motor, if it spins, then ry the wire to the solenoid, and also connect 12V to the solenoid activation spade terminal.
It will be a duff section somewhere in the circuit, so binary chop time to identify the problem.
I haven’t done anything to my EV with the sidecar yet, just fitted a 1950 Busmar York to the BSA A65, at least with Hedingham’s you don’t get dry rot a65rocket2013-06-16 20:14:42

I had this on my 97 Cali 2 weeks ago in France. It was not the Click no crank from the relay, mine was a loud click from the starter itself and the engine not turning over.
Same symptoms ie starter getting very hot.
Removed starter (valeo) and found that the solenoid was working properly and throwing the pinnion forward when the starter button was pressed but the motor did not spin.
Stripped it and found that the magnets had detachd and wedged the commutator seizing the motor effectively.
I had no choice but to fit a new motor but if i had been at home it may have been repairable,

This does happen to Valeo ones they can sometimes be repaired with alaldite but it depends if there has been any internal damage
Hi GB, Don Spada posted a link to a site in America that sells the replacement Valeo outer casing with well attached magnets for about $35 plus shipping. Cheap repair but mine had chewed the commutator badly and the cost of a new motor when i needed one in a hurry in France was painful.
The bike really kicks over well now though and as my mate says about the unexpected expense " Cry Once and move on "
