V50 Front Wheel Won't Fit...

Good point, well made.

Yes the small block is exactly the same. No spacer is required on the shoulder side. All a spacer there will do is make the spindle protrude more out of the fork leg.The actual clearance between the disc and fork leg is obtained by allowing the fork leg to find it’s correct position on the spindle before clamping it. If the spindle is tight in the fork leg then this will not happen.

My money is on excess powered coat stopping the spindle seating properly into the left hand fork leg

on sues V50 Mk3 (Monza) there are two spacers a 19mm one on the left with a slight step between the bearing and the fork leg and between the speedo drive and fork leg a 10mm one which appears to be missing on nigels part number 61 61 56 30 as shown on page 17 of the genuine moto guzzi Monza parts catalogue I have in front of me as I write
I suspect Moto guzzi just Reversed sides with the fork legs from mk 2 to mk3’sthus reversing the way the spindle goes in. They may have altered the internals but I cant see guzzi designing new castings if they don’t have too

On the ‘shoulder’ side, the spindle is just a little deeper than flush with the outside of the fork leg now. As Keith states above, Sue’s Monza that has the 10mm spacer in the shoulder side means that the spindle sticks out about 2mm or so. My feeling is that the 10mm spacer on the Monza on my bike will keep the clearance correct and the spindle will protrude a couple of mm from the fork leg. As previously stated, powdercoat has definately had a part to play here.

Forgot to mention it, ta, he’s right, he’s not wrong. 'Cause if not aligned proper, sliders will bind on the stanchions, suspension ‘stiff’, excessive wear, etcetera

Oh yeah…forgot about that…shall remove it from my sig…maybe have to do a build thread on here perhaps.

In my Guzzi manual there is a drawing of the forks, and the distance between the fork legs at the bottom where the spindle goes is 125mm. You should be able to check that measurement. Centre to centre on the fork tubes is 160mm. The same figures are given for the V50III and Monza.

Thanks Brian…I will give them a measure at the weekend.

By the way, centre to centre the discs are 110 mm apart. Might be a useful thing to check too while you have the tape measure out.

Good mench, are discs wider than they should be

They are brand new discs, never used in anger. Pretty sure the problem has been bottomed now, thankfully with everyone’s help. Have put a request in the ‘Wanted Parts’ section in case anyone has a used spacer as it will take 14 days to get it from Europe according to Gutsibits. Have emailed Motomecca and Reboot but heard nothing yet.

Have you tried Stein Dinse in Germany, it’s showing as in stock on their website? I’ve had stuff delivered from them in a matter of days.

Do you have a link for this part please Doug? I am looking on the site but haven’t been able to find it.

Thanks, youre a star!

Be aware that that part is for the V65, which may not have the same forks as you have on the V50.That spacer is not listed for any of the v50 models.

I intend to pop this spacer on…well, the one coming from Pete at Reboot… and so long as it doesn’t foul the fork leg, holds the speedo drive against the bearing and doesn’t make the spindle protrude the outside of the fork leg then I think it might be a success. I will also be aware of the shoulder of the spindle going deep enough into the hole for safety reasons.I think you’re right about the spacer not being listed for the Mk2, but as Keith states above, it does for the Mk3/Monza.

Got one on my Monza. Deffo.
