Nothing directly, but I did spend Sunday covertly earning “yes of course you can go for a ride” points by doing a bunch of work in the garden without being requested
I’m not sure if these are more resilient than standard “Brownie Points” which can disappear for the most minor infringement
Mine went the same way and the switch was pretty much seized in place.
Rigged an old fashioned spring switch to the pedal and used plug to socket extensions wires to ease return to the hydraulic switch.

I have ordered a new switch unit £4-00 off eBay for a Mark 1 Golf. Should do the trick so long as I can get the old one out. I suspect this may turn into a bit of an overhaul of the brakes. New 6mm stainless bleed nipples ordered from Shaws stainless, it needs new fluid as what’s in it must be 6 or 7 years old, the braided hoses are 28 years old as I fitted them when I bought the bike, and the bit of rigid pipe coming out of the proportioning valve is quite rusty where it catches all the muck off the rear wheel.
Ho humm, these things must be done.
Just about to try a set of Roadsmart 3’s on the Stelvio (being one of the few tyres available is the original silly size combination) on the way for an MOT.
Rear wheel out of the Mongrel yesterday.
Bit of a clean and refurb of the brake caliper.
This morning off to get the new BT45 fitted. £85 all in for the loose wheel.

Stelvio passed it’s MOT and the new Roadsmart 3’s feel pretty good although not tried ‘in anger’ yet. Treated her to fresh oil (Valvoline VR1 10w-60), new oil filter (had to buy yet another filter wrench as UFI can’t seem to decide on how many flutes) and new brake and clutch fluid.
It’s an early bike and is still running flat tappets. Acquired some second hand roller cam boxes from Italy recently so will be doing the conversion shortly.
I’m also about to start reassembling an early (manufactured June 1975) T3. I’ll post some pictures as it comes together.
Well it’s a month today since my crash, and I took the strapping off my finger yesterday. It feels very weak and I still get pain in certain positions, but since I had to go into the garage anyway just thought I would see if my hand was yet strong enough to pull the clutch in the Le Mans. The answer is yes, just. So then I thought I would just see if the bike would start. It has not been touched yet this year and probably not ridden since about October. Started easily the beautiful thing.
Next thing is to see if I can bend my left leg enough to be comfy on the bike, and change gear comfortably. Then it will be a test ride.
I think it’s 50/50 whether I will be strong enough to ride to Bristol next weekend for the Italia. Then the following weekend it’s the Wiltshire camp and the problem there could be that I still can’t lie on my back in bed, so sleeping on a thin thermal mattress might be challenging. Perhaps 7 pints would help do you think?
