Took a trip out to the Taverners VMCC barbeque trial, to watch some nice old bikes being chased up and down the side of a railway embankment. The Cali is quite a handfull down dirt tracks and through farmyards!
I was caught in 2nd too. Luckily I had read about the brake change technic on the V11 forum. Managed to get it up to 5th and stayed there until tmo miles from home, then down to 4th. A useful wrinkle.
Well, was much easier than expected, only lost a few cc of oil. I parked it facing slightly downhill, on the side stand, and of course the oil was cold. Used a Wine cork to hold the oil back while I put the washer on.
Went over to the Greetham gathering in Rutland this eve. A friendly gathering of old assorted cars and bikes. 2 Jenson Interceptors in the same field.
The Cali was running rough, one cylinder if the revs dropped, on the way there. Only when I went to start it up to go home, I realised i’d ridden all the way there with the choke left on, just a bit! Ran fine all the way home.
With the V11 off road with a Pawl arm spring failure and the Mot looming, I took the opportunity to investigate the horn failure. Having eliminated the horn itself, the fuses, it was the switch contact. Normally would have started there, but not the easiest to work on with a digital dash controller.
Reminder thingy on 'puter said V50 MOT due 2nd July. Checked her over at W/E and prepared to go and book with ‘the man’ today. Pulled out old MOT only to find due date 2nd August - DOH. Damned computers. Never mind, went for a nice ride anyway!
Got back from the SimmerDIm on the Lemon this evening, the last leg being the 350 or so miles from Moffat to Frome. Moffat is a very bike friendly place if you need a stop off ever. Previous day got off the ferry in Aberdeen, rode over Glenshee and then did the 701 from Penicuik to Moffat. Just over 200 miles and a great ride.
Simmer DIm was great as ever, although windy rainy and chilly this year. About 4 other Guzzis there. The whole trip was around 1650 miles, taking in the Pennine camp as well. The old Lemon was faultless apart from a lost footrest rubber, hardly used any oil.
With the possibility of having to sell a bike looming I’ve started a deep clean and a refresh on my LM2. If it goes or stays, it’ll do the old girl the world of good and besides I find this type of thing very therapeutic. I hope to get some use from it before the summer disappears too.
New fork stanchions and seals fitted. Wheels back on after having layers of old paint removed, cleaned up by Exsmoking’ of this parish (Thanks Ray, good job fella) and I spent the afternoon removing the exhaust system and foot rests on my LM2 for repainting.
I’ve replaced the torn rubber speedo cowling with a second hand one that’s in excellent condition only to find that the the hidden warning light fitment behind it is non standard, but it’s still effective nonethe less so I’ll leave alone - at least until I’ve finished the refresh and it bugs me too much.
Well happy this week, found an original Saddle for my '56 Zigolo restoration project, yes it needs recovering but all there -
trial fitted , no problems , was starting to doubt there was one out there. Got it from a really helpful guy in Italy without
being taped on price & postage
