Yup, it sure was.
Coldest I have been since 1998 at Suffolk where I had to run a lighter quickly over the tent zip to unfreeze it.
The ducks were ice skating in the field.
Cancelled my service at Newcombe Bros. Re-booked for next week when it will be +7 not -6
Managed to cycle to the station. Unusually, ‘they’ manage to arrange a train to meet me there.
Spent a couple of hours in the garage to do an oil change on the Cali. The filter had date and mileage scratched in the top and it turned out it was done 2 years 3 days ago and it has only done 387 miles since so that went back in.
Looks like the clutch arm needs a bit of attention as the spring is hanging loose and the oil leak I am getting is from the plunger. Looks like new O rings are needed.
I’m surprised you haven’t lost that spring, all that holds it in is the arm!
Needs rescuing ASAP else will drop off and disappear.
It looks like the pivot arm is well oiled so hopefully the pin will come out OK. Just need to find a new O-ring. Looking at the parts list, it’s just a 13 x 2 O ring. I assume I won’t be able to get the push rod out to replace the taper seals on that as well??
If the swinging arm is removed it is possible (on a G5) to remove the
push rod and seals but there is a risk that the clutch thrust pad in the middle of the
clutch can become dislodged and then its a full strip.to refit. The pad is probably
rusted into place but not guaranteed
I have changed the release bearing o ring with out removing the swinging arm.
Malc
Thanks for that Malc. I have found a pack of 9 O rings for the outer part of the thrust bearing, and 8 of the tapered bushes for the push rod left over from when I overhauled my Spada. (The dealer ordered the parts for me and Piagio sent 10 of everything).
I should really drop the swing arm out and check the UJ etc as the bike is new to me and I don’y know it’s history. I’ll see how I feel (and how cold it is in the garage) when I tackle that job.
My own experience has been that the pushrod will only come out if pushed from the other end, as the cone seals were quite tight. The inner ‘T’ piece (which the thrust bearing presses on) might be pulled out with like a magnet on the end of a rod, but one of mine was so tight on the rod it wouldn’t have come off like that. Unless the pushrod came with it. And yes there is a risk of the thrust piece in the centre of the flywheel dislodging. At the moment I might think in terms of trying replacing the O ring to stop the leak, cos going further in is likely a gearbox out job.
(PS: tried replying to this last night on the mobile but silly site wouldn’t let me post, kept repeatedly asking for log in. )
That sounds like reasonable advice Mike. Looks like I’m heading up to the garage in a bit to take a look.
Edit All sorted, new O ring on the plunger and the spring is back in place.
The brand new O ring is a fairly sloppy fit on the plunger and I don’t have much hope of it keeping the oil in. I might look to see if I can get a thicker one some time.
I had a similar problem on my loop and I put in an x ring rather than an o ring. I had to order it on line but to my surprise it worked and that was about 2 years ago!
Cheers Ian
Just looked them up, they also seem to be known as quad rings. They look like they should work a whole lot better than a poorly fitting O ring .

Fired up the Nevada for the first time since Monday night. Couple of revs and fired up after being left in an unheated annexed garage. Alicante Lithium battery.
Nice ride in the rain to Basildon and back, the Stelvio is going well after its service yesterday. Oh the joys of Essex
Yes, that’s the thing with going to Basildon. It’s all about the coming back.
Watched the T3 Cali being loaded up as it begins it’s journey to California…oh well…hopefully never see salt and snow again…
My only experience of Basildon was with the Cardio/Thoracic unit at the hospital and the coming back was indeed a joyous experience.
Washed the salt off the Stelvio
Exercised both guzzi s today first outing since new years day, we all enjoyed ourselves.

Took the 750 Breva to Bilge’s 60th at the Lower Lode over the weekend.
Grand fun.
