What did you do with your Guzzi today? 2022...

Pulled Blue out from winter slumbers. All serviced during that period but just had to stick the battery back in and then balance the carbs. Due an MOT now, which will be its last. Shame about the rear tyre, I’d become quite attached to that.

Had you monies worth out of that one

Yeah, and it was still kind of feeling OK despite the squaring off.

Similarly, wandering back to my bicycle in the sheds after my gym session I noticed the canvas showing through on the rear of that one.

VHB carbs? Light springs worked fine for me despite dire warnings from ‘more knowledgeable people’ that the slides would stick, but never did. However, I used to put a smear of grease on the front faces of the slides during a service or if they were ever taken out for any reason. I also found oiling the cables regular also meant it ran down into the slides so that must have helped too. Of course yours may simply be worn out and past it.

Yeah, I still have a set in the 30s on Blue and they’re OK. The 29s on Jug have always had a slight predilection to hang but have become just too bad more recently. Odo is coming up for 90k miles so if there is any truth in that and they’ve been hanging on the back of the pots for all that time they’re probably a little past their best.

Got a new tyre delivered for Blue, rang the local shop (*) and asked if they could fit the tyre if I dropped just the wheel and new tyre in some time. I was told if I left it with them for a few days they’d see about fitting it in. Is that really as good as it gets these days? Set to and did it myself.

(*)- My proper decent local emporium closed at the end of last year. Boy do I miss them.

Tucked up the cafe racer nice and tight en route to the MGCGB stand at the Stafford show

Cyclobutch: I found a mobile tyre man (comes with all the gear in his van), make a booking, he turns up onthe date and time specified. Only does bike tyres and says he’s rushed off his feet most of the time so obviously doing well!

I’ve had a similar experience, my local garage would not fit a tyre on a loose wheel unless they sold me the tyre!

Started the 12000 mile service on the Breva today. The dreded inner plugs came out without drama. Apart from needing the hands of a 5 year old to get at them

I think the inner plugs were ready for a change. I expect they were in there from new.

Anyway, Blue got MOT’d OK. I’m having to use a different MOT station this year and we did have some excitement when the tester couldn’t pick up the correct frame number. It was starting to look like Blue has been a ringer all these years. But we found something more suitable on the other side of the headstock in the end. Advisory on slightly loose head bearings was all, and that was the last one under the 40 year rule.

Now taxed and will be carrying me to the Pennine Rally at the end of the week.

I had problems with the heavy throttle on my Cali’ 3, I changed to lighter springs. Still thought it was a bit heavy, so I fitted barrel shaped grips. thicker than standard grips and more ergonomic, made it even better.

Finally fixed the charging problem on my 850T. For a long time the charge warning light would come on at low revs, but a few days ago it came on and stayed on regardless of the engine speed.
A fault test provided on the Gutsibits website indicated that the problem was with the regulator. So I duly ordered one which arrived next day ( hurrah ).
Swapped the old for new and all is good again. :slightly_smiling_face:

Rode over to Barnet in the mistaken belief that meetings were on the first Monday of the month when a quick look on the forum would have confirmed they are on the second Monday. In my defence I don’t do weekday evening meetings as I am normally working but the excitement of being off got the better of me.

Interesting - both Blue and the Pearl behave like that; charge light shows at idle revs. I did swap out the regulator and fitted new brushes on Blue, made no difference.

Oh I have done that with Oxford branch meetings more than once !!

One of many senior moments lately.

Probably use the car for the next meet, I dont think I will have a chance to get the puncture fixed, odd I thought i put a post on about that but cant find it ?
it looks as if an alloy rivet has nicked the carcass
I bet i end up needing a new tyre
I often fancy a smaller guzzi, like a single, at least I could mend a puncture myself

Well, one reason could be that I have replaced the old regulator with a modern solid state box. Perhaps the old clockwork ones aren’t so good with low revs.
Also, during the fault finding process, I disconnected and cleaned all of the connectors. I have been told that a bad earth from the rectifier ( diode board ) is a common cause of trouble.
