What did you do with your Guzzi today ? .......

Got up at 7am, took the Bella out for a relaxed 40 mile spin around the fair city of Moscow before it got too hot. Wouldn’t normally have been anything special. Except that it was the first ride since getting out of hospital yesterday afternoon after a 10 day stay prompted by a heart attack

So this morning’s little bimble was definitely one of my most fun rides EVER

Good grief Ivan…you be sure and take it easy for a bit…x

Yup get better and keep riding/posting.

Thanks; I’ll be fine. My most pressing problem is that a few of the neighbours saw me take the bike out this morning. Mrs Russian Anti-Guzzi was out of town and if/when the neighbours grass me up for going from hospital bed to Bellagio I’ll get awesome epic grief

Yeah but it is worth it.

Ordered a Cross over pipe to make access to the gearbox drain plug easier and the other bits and bobs I needed for a service and discovered that Gutsibits in common with my local car accessory shop don’t have any Molyslip G wot yer put in the rear bevel box. It would appear that this hitherto essential substance in now unobtainable, unless somebody out there knows different. Even with Agip’s finest 85/140 in there i just know I am going to have nightmares in which the bevel box on my 750 Breva explodes like a hand grenade on an almost nightly basis unless I can locate some.

Haven’t used Molyslip since about 1988.

Some transmission oils already carry an additive negating the need for the molyslip.

Got mine from Amazon. Not sure if it’s ‘G’ though but came in a tube.

Finally plucked up the courage to switch off the Lambda sensor using Guzzidiag and Tunerpro. Low speed running is much improved.

Still readily available however i no longer bother with it.Molyslip Gearbox for sale | eBay

Found some on Fleabay Cheers

I always use Moly in my bevel boxes. It might be OK on the modern stuff with modern oils but I’ll not take the chance given the relative low cost of the additive.Sometimes I us the “G” and sometimes the double strength stuff in a tube.It may be entirely a coincidence but, I left the moly out for about 1500 miles about 10 years back 'cos I couldn’t get any locally. There was a bit of a vibration.

Saw your post on the other forum v7john.As some might see it as technically an ‘enemy forum’ I feel it is my duty to try and poison you at the V Twin.So what is your ‘poison’?Agree about the reason for going as well. And that is a beautifull bike you have coming along.

That was it, the double-strength stuff!

Hi Oafski, Jim Blomley and me both put a big dollop of Graphogen (Colloidal Graphite Paste) in both the gearbox and drive box in our race bikes. Despite considerable abuse no damage to gear teeth (did break the shock absorber in my gearbox - but that was not related to lubrication) Try this website http://www.graphogen.co.uk/ Halfords sell Molyslip Gearbox Protector @ £8.99 http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/gearbox-oil/molyslip-gearbox-protector Hope that this helps. Nigel

From my days as a HD rider I used to do 50/50 of STP/EP90…did a lot of miles on this…

Enemies? Nah! I’ll talk about Guzzis to anyone whether they like it or not.Not supposed to try any of the enjoyable poisons 'cos they might conflict with the prescribed ones but I do sometimes make an exception, rough, tough biking rebel that I am. The bike is coming along nicely. It won’t be an immaculate show piece like some of the bike restorations over on the Wildgoose forum. I would need much more cash to replace or restore every last part and I’m going to ride it anyway. I have more time than money after being retired early. This bike has done well over 100K miles and it showed. I want it sorted and on the road for next spring but there’ll always be something else to do to it.

Thanks to everyone who replied re Molybdenum Disulphide gearbox additive. It would seem that rumours of it’s demise were somewhat exagerated and it is fairly widely available. My nightmares about my 750 Breva will now be confined to melting plastic fuel tanks , fuel injection gremlins and self destructing instrument panels. Paranoid ? Moi?oafski2014-07-15 22:12:15
