Tsk…Ivan…In my youth I purchased from Er  Majesty’s Stationery Office …a copy of the Police Motorcyclists Manual of Roadcraft…and very good it was too…the boyz are deceptively rapid and safe…
In other news…cracking run out to Big Brekkie this mornin on Sir Duke and the lemon…met up with Ranton on his Loop and Padge on his sublime S3…few other guzzis there, Â lemon, lario and a beautiful 1000s…loadsa bikes and a roaring gale…thankfully without the rain…which has arrived now…doh !
Congratulations! You’re the only person I know of who’s actually managed to read the Roadcraft Manual.
I can see it’s really valuable; I can also see that it’s the most boring book ever written. It’s not just me: on YouTube there’s a Met motorcyclist commenting that his copy has got dribble stains where he feel asleep reading it.
I thought I’d cracked it on a 10 hour flight to New York. Settled down, got into Chapter 1, then awoke with a start some time later to hear the captain saying “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, we’re just beginning our final descent into New York.â€
Moscow bike cops are no slouches either: filter at absolutely terrifying speed ![]()
I’ve got one of those!
Aah…but I was a young slip of a gal gents…my pain threshold was higher… ![]()

. . . !
Right! New dogleg clutch lever and cable are now on, eventually! It never occurred to me (and it should have -

doh!) that the cable inner length wouldn’t match, cos the lever mount is different; the adjusters at both ends were running out of thread and the clutch still wouldn’t disengage, so I had to insert an extra ferrule (correct term?) type thingy as a spacer and thus ‘shorten’ the cable inner by about 10 mm. Works now. Fortunately I had measured the previous set-up’s slack (fully released) and ‘tight’ (fully pulled in) distances twixt gearbox lever and the thingy on the rear cover wot the cable outer sleeve adjuster sits in (You know worra mean) afore I dismantled it…
For future ref., slack = 37 [35] mm (or 1.5" if you prefer); fully pulled-in = 26 [26] mm (or 1") - numbers between ‘[ ]’ = mm with dogleg lever.
Slight fly in the ointment, the new cable is one o’ them ones that includes the clutch switch thing in it, so there is no perceivable slack at h/bar lever cos it’s all taken up by the elastic squashy nature of the clutch switch.
The other thing I did was wiring up for the LED brake light repeater on the Givi topbox.
Finished it!! Â
Short test run was ok. Now away til Wednesday, but the forecast says warm and sunny then, so fingers and toes crossed. Â

Ooh…sounds excitin !
Back from sunny hols, figured I’d bite the bullet and try and get some bikes MOT’d today. So far Hardley (the '89 Sportster) and Brown (the '76 H1) have got through OK. Hardley with the usual advisories of slightly warped front disc and a little slack in the front wheel bearings. Brown all clean. To be honest neither have them have done a whole heap of miles in the last year - just a little over 500 in each case. Brown only went back on the road this time last year after an extensive rebuild (I was gifted it in a number of boxes), and at around 22 mpg (+ oil) I can’t afford to head out far or often on that one. Hardley was the fave squeeze until Blue came along last summer. Blue is down there at the moment, with the front cover thin enough that there’s maybe only 500 miles or so left in it. Should be aboard that one for the Golden Eagle this coming weekend.
Hooray - three from three.
Nothing to do with bikes.
About 3 months ago I noticed my windows needed cleaning, well they were put in about 5-6 years ago and I haven’t touched 'em.
Came home Friday pm and the mgmt coy had all the flats windows cleaned as a one off as Sprung is about to spring.
Wonder if I can get the same on my downpipes?
Good day yesterday had a run out with some non-guzzi friends covered around 175 miles of Herts and Essex. Norge was flying and easily kept up with the sports bikes.
Unsung heroes of the marque…them there Norge’s…
After a fair bit of recommisioning my lads 1988 950 Tonti cafe racer is now a runner , bought as a bit of pig in a poke it was great to hear the motor run up and sound great , very responsive with no nasty knocks etc , infact the engine sounds very quiet ,cans don’t tho
still a fair way to go before she’s on the road, but today was a great step forward, onwards and upwards

Collected my ebay Trotter in Dewsbury, I’m quite charmed with it!
Not bad for a Monday, fellows ![]()

Chilly…we could do with a picture !..
Hmmm…Dewsbury…has that been in the news lately ot am I confundled ?
Anyway, we could do with a pic of the Trotter too…
Chilly? 'twas T-shirt wevver darn Sarf ~ just rechecked I had got the clutch adjustment right on the Guzzi, but most of the rest of the day was occupied mowing the grass with a longish break at half-time to repair the mower;
a plastic ring wot holds in an O-ring wot seals the carb to the cylinder head inlet stub had come loose, hence ditto the O-ring. Still was a good opportunity for a general clean up and check-over and I now know how to take the combined carb and tank off ~ involving a quaint mix of both imperial and metric fasteners…
No pics just yet Kate ,sorry ,no tank , seat or clocks etc fitted yet ![]()
I took a pic

Is a 1970 late original Trotter Super, needs a little fettling, it maybe had some unsympathetic use after import in '00, last MOT was '02. Need to find a tail lens and sort the head bearing and Mot’s your uncle. Oh yea and the cables are crud and wiring looks iffy. The engine covers are split where overfastened in a cosmetic way, shame, but on the upside the paint and rims are great and no corrosion anywhere except the spokes which are a bit crusty. I need to hunt down a manual in English.
The pillion adaptation is well-made and integrated and I guess is a factory mod for bambinos in tow. Top speed is about 24mph, which should just about manage with the route I usually cycle to/from work, but I’ll be choosing my moments.
Phil
I bought another tank for my Le Mans. The original STILL hasn’t been modded, only 18 months so far & counting!
I reckon I got a cracking deal.
